A high-profile study showing that about "half of American children who meet the textbook definition of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) ever get diagnosed by a doctor or get regular access to medication to treat it" was conducted by Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center in partnership with the Mayo Clinic. The lead author was Tanya Froehlich, a Cincinnati Children's pediatrician specializing in developmental and behavioral disorders. The study found that almost "9% of American children have ADHD, but only 32 percent of them are getting the medication they need." The study was covered in all major U.S. media outlets, including the Cincinnati Enquirer and the Washington Post.
