A report from the National Women's Law Center says that both Ohio and the United States as a whole aren't "making the grade when it comes to women's health. The report gives the country an overall grade of 'unsatisfactory' because it meets only three of 27 benchmarks for women's health." Those benchmarks include such indicators as the percentage of women who get regular mammograms, visit their dentist annually, are screened for colorectal cancer, and have health insurance (Source: "U.S. Women's Health Care Still Falls Short: Report" U.S. News and World Report, Oct. 17, 2007.)
No states received a "satisfactory" grade in the report, while Ohio received a rating of "unsatisfactory. " According to a sampling of the report statistics, 87.7% of Ohio women receive first trimester prenatal care (giving the state a "satisfactory minus" rating), 73.5% of Ohio women receive mammogram screenings (giving the state a "satisfactory" rating), 24.6% of Ohio women are obese (giving the state an "unsatisfactory" rating), and 12.6% of Ohio women are uninsured (giving the state an "unsatisfactory" rating).
