The Joint Committee on Agency Rule Review (JCARR) yesterday struck down a proposal from the Ohio Civil Rights Commission that would have guaranteed women 12 weeks of maternity leave from their jobs. (Source: "Maternity leave plan shot down, "Columbus Dispatch, Nov. 4, 2007.) While the commission said the new standard wouldn't cost employers anything, JCARR members disagreed by a 9 to 1 vote. However, JCARR members also said the commission could try again with the proposal once they had more information on the projected costs of the mandated leave.
