According to BioEnterprise Corp, Ohio attracted $51.2 million in health-care venture capaital investments during the first quarter of 2008 (Source: "Report: Ohio leads region for 1Q health-care VC infusions," Columbus Business First, April 23, 2008). The investment in Ohio was more than one-third the total investment in the Midwest region, a region that consits of nine states and Western Pennsylvania. Medical device companies received almost half of this total investment. It went to companies in the Cleveland and Cincinnati areas.
