Kent State officials are considering a plan to create a school of public health. It would be the second public health school in Ohio (Source: “KSU may add public health to its offering,” Akron Beacon-Journal, July 14, 2008).
KSU Provost Robert Frank plans to present a report by next April to the university's president on the financial feasibility of starting a public health school. The school, which when fully operational could enroll 400 in a bachelor’s program and 200 in master’s and doctoral programs, could address the pending shortage in public health workers, Frank said.
''It's a real area of opportunity,'' Frank said. ''During the next four years, 23 percent of the public health work force will be retiring. Ohio has some significant public health needs.''
