In an effort to streamline its process for providers, Ohio’s seven Medicad insurance plans have begun using the same form for patients who need approval in advance for a drug or treatment or referral to a specialist (Source: “Medicaid plans take pain out of forms,” Columbus Dispatch, Sept. 13, 2009).
"We hear from physicians here in Ohio, and they're frustrated by the different forms," said Dr. Kevin Smith, chief medical officer for Molina Healthcare of Ohio. "We took a look at what we're requiring and put together that request in a standard, single form. Hopefully, it will make their lives a whole lot easier and simpler."
The Medicaid plans started using the form about a month ago.
