In response to a Supreme Court ruling that the Americans with Disabilities Act may require states to provide community-based services for people with disabilities, the Strickland Administration earlier this month released a draft document outlining its plan to address the issue.
Balancing and Beyond: A Vision for Community Services and Supports for Individuals with Disabilities was drafted in response to the 1999 United States Supreme Couty decision in Olmstead v. L.C. that the unnecessary segregation in institutions of individuals with disabilities may constitute discrimination. The Administration is asking that those interesting in commenting on the plan send an e-mail to olmstead@emma.ohio.gov.
