The Ohio House of Representatives on Wednesday passed a bill that would give juvenile court judges the ability to give protection orders to teen in abusive dating relationships (Source: “Teen protection order bill sails out of House; to be signed by governor,” Cleveland Plain Dealer, March 10, 2010).
An amended version of the bill passed the state Senate the day before and is expected to be signed into law by Gov. Strickland.
In addition to allowing teens to obtain an order of protection against another juvenile, the bill also allows foster parents to obtain such an order. And under normal circumstances, the order can be expunged from a juvenile’s record when they reach 19.
